FAQs About Rituals

  • Rituals are not limited to religious or spiritual traditions. Seasonal, relational, work, and personal rituals are intentional practices that deepen our connection to ourselves and to one another.

  • A ritual is a set of actions performed with intention, often in a specific sequence, that carries symbolic meaning. Rituals may be religious, cultural, or personal, marking transitions, honoring events, or creating a sense of order and connection.

  • A habit is something you do regularly, often automatically. A ritual is a habit infused with intention, awareness, and meaning. It transforms routine into something meaningful. As Michael Norton explains in The Ritual Effect: “Good habits automate us, helping us get things done. Rituals animate us, enhancing and enchanting our lives with something more.”

  • Research shows that practicing rituals can lower stress, build confidence, and strengthen resilience.

  • Every transition holds both an ending and a beginning. Rituals bring meaning and closure to important thresholds such as marriage, divorce, loss, job change, birth, and death. They help us honor what is passing away, grieve what is lost, and step with intention into what is new.

  • Rituals don’t need to be long or elaborate. A simple practice like taking a few heart-centered breaths before a meeting or naming three things you are grateful for before sleep can be deeply powerful. What matters most is intention and consistency, not the amount of time.

“I met Kitty at a time when my life had traumatically been turned upside down. Through her words, her actions, her teachings, her rituals and ceremonies she gave me the tools to find my path and to walk with courage and integrity. I have learned so much from her that I apply daily. In broadening my perspective, I can recognize new possibilities and move forward in grace. Thank you, Kitty, for bringing me the tools to carve a new way forward. I am forever grateful.”
